The 3 Year Masterplan shows broadly what will be achieved in the first few years of the project.

This 3-year action plan includes projects which will:

  • Replace the majority of deck access blocks with traditional housing and promote new development.
  • Upgrade and improve infrastructure and routes.Improve the environment, open space and leisure opportunities.
  • Provide better community resources and shopping facilities.
  • Improve access to education, training and employment.

Over 50 projects for Castlefields are identified within the Masterplan, covering housing, environmental, infrastructure and social aspects. These are shown here.

Housing and Development Projects include:

  • Demolition of Ferryview Walk, Rothesay, Chester, Caernarvon, Delacy, Fitzwilliam, The Butts, Rolands Walk and the part demolition of Princes Close.
  • Development of new properties for rent and for sale.

Environmental and Leisure Projects include:

  • Create a new high quality public space and New shopping facility- the Village Square.
  • Improve the quality and maintenance of planting.
  • Improve street lighting.
  • Improve the park including a new link across to Windmill Hill, Lakeside housing and youth activity facilities.
  • Improve the Canal corridor.

Infrastructure Projects include:

  • Designate a new shared use section of the busway (i.e. cars, cyclists, buses and pedestrians on a single route).
  • Close problematic pedestrian subways and create new surface level crossings.
  • Upgrade remaining subways.

Social Projects include:

  • Developing the 'People into Jobs' initiative.
  • Improving employment opportunities at Astmoor.
  • Developing educational facilities as a community resource.

Other projects which are being worked up soon include the removal and upgrading of underpasses, new and improved cycleways, shared use of part of the busway, and provision of improved community facilities.
